His Lordship, the Honourable Chief Justice of the Gambia Hassan B Jallow has returned from Rabat, Morocco where he attended the 6th General Assembly of the Conference of African Chief Justices and Presidents of Supreme and Constitutional Courts. The event was anchored on the theme: African Constitutional Courts and the Application of International Law Within Domestic Jurisdictions.
In his remarks at the session, Chief Justice Jallow presented on the Gambia and the commonwealth experience with the application of international legal principles. He suggested that although the Gambia has a dualist system, there are opportunities for the country to benefit from the principles of international law. He urged for increased reliance on the Bangalore Law Principles adopted by Commonwealth judges in order to secure more reliance on international law by domestic courts.
The convergence offers Judicial officers the chance to discuss matters of importance in improving the administration of Justice. The Gambia made its debut attendance at the event this year.
